Amsterdam Finance
Amsterdam is a banking and finance center, and there are many banks & ATMs located around the center, the most visible of which is ING, with orange ATMs all over the center that take international cards and are in multiple languages. It is not unusual for ATMs in the center to run out of money over the weekend, and simply display an "out of order" message. It is wise to plan ahead and take out enough money for your weekend on Friday.
If you are desperate to find an ATM with cash on Sunday, ATMs at the Waterlooplein market in the city hall building are a good bet. Otherwise, hop a tram to the south out of the centrum and look for an ATM in the residential outer suburbs.
ATM scams have been reported in Amsterdam, so use Generic ATMs in bars and phone shops with caution. The same goes for changing money. Use a money exchange bureau that displays its exchange rates. The ones on the Damrak are generally reputable, though offering varying exchange rates. It is worth it to compare if you are changing a lot of cash.
Always be cautious of pickpockets around ATMs and money change offices!
